Catalogue Roberti Fine Art, TEFAF Maastricht 2026 (1) compressed - Flipbook - Page 4
INTRODUCTION
We are delighted to be participating at TEFAF in Maastricht for the first time this year.
Founded in 2024, the gallery works with private collectors and major institutions internationally. Its
programme builds on long-standing professional experience within the Old Master and 19thCentury fields, with a focus on European paintings and drawings from the medieval period to the
early twentieth century, and a particular expertise in Italian Old Masters.
The unifying theme of this catalogue is an exploration of materiality, a subject which has long
fascinated me. In particular, I wanted to consider more closely the enduring resonance of gold,
stone, metal, and wood across centuries of artistic production, as both support and signifier. Gold
can play a role as a direct marker of intrinsic value, such as in the ancient jewellery you will find in
these pages, or as a transcendent decorative medium to elevate manuscripts or paintings into the
spiritual realm, as exemplified by the extraordinary Books of Hours or in Daddi's Crucifixion.
Similarly, the trailblazing brilliance of a still-life painter like Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder
demonstrates that a flat panel can become a celebration of three-dimensional beauty, his bouquet
unfolding as a cornucopia of texture, colour and vitality.
Behind - and sometimes beneath - the visual gratification art affords us lies the physical presence
of the object itself. It is this material reality, tangible, enduring, and shaped by the artist’s hand,
that gives each work its authority, its rarity, and ultimately its lasting value.
We look forward to welcoming you to our stand.
A special thanks to Mathilde Wood.
