The present manuscript aligns closely with this culminating moment. Painted in brilliant hues, its
eighteen surviving half-page miniatures display the recognisable physiognomic traits of the
Master’s mature style: robust, rounded figures; emphatic architectural framing; and carefully
calibrated colour harmonies. The Procession for the Feast of Corpus Christi finds a close parallel in
the Lille Missal, while the Adoration of the Magi reprises the distinctive mounted retinue seen in
Walters MS 719. The Suffrage miniatures display slightly heightened monumentality, and the
generous margins permit the nearly square compositions, with their gently curved upper edges, to
press against4and at times extend beyond4their gilded frames, creating a dynamic interplay
between pictorial field and decorative enclosure.
The manuscript’s liturgical profile confirms its close association with Mons. Although the text
follows the Use of Rome, the calendar reflects local devotional priorities, including the prominent
commemoration of Saint Waudru (Waldetrudis), patron of Mons, and her husband Saint Vincent
Madelgarus, founder of Hautmont and Soignies within the diocese of Cambrai. These inclusions
anchor the codex within a precisely defined regional context and reinforce its production within
the Tournai3Mons artistic axis.
